USA-Canada Youth Friendship Match 2009
Once again, Canada's best youth players faced off over virtual goban against the best youth players the United States' could muster! With over 350 spectators watching the hotly contested games with bated breath, Canada claimed the mantle of North American supremacy 6-2 for this year! We are very proud of our team's performance and thank the players in the United States for their honest and fervent opposition. It is our hope that this friendly rivalry will continue to bolster the level of competition on both sides of the border and inspire their peers to invigorate the Youth Go community as a whole.
Tyler Reynolds Vice-president (Grants & Youth) 14 December 2009
All games were played on Sunday, 13 December, 2009, @ 16:00 (4PM) EST (GMT -5).

* In the game between Simon Luo (CAN) and Hugh Zhang (USA) the game was decided by less than 1 point, and tipped on the resolution of a seki in the top right corner, according to the Japanese Rules and the concurrent opinion of a professional player consulted by the Tournament Director, since the KGS Scoring engine incorrectly allocated two Black stones as 'dead' at the conclusion of the game, when they were clearly integral to the seki, that could easily be maintained were they to be captured in-game.
All games took place in the "AGA Tournaments" room on the Kiseido Go Server (KGS). Each player was allotted 60 minutes of basic time, with 5 byo-yomi periods of 30 seconds in overtime. The first board determined colour by KGS's nigiri function, and all other boards took alternate colours. Japanese scoring was specified, and White recieved 6.5 points komi in all games.
