Canadian Qualifier for North American Masters Tournament

Registration Deadline: February 19th, 2010

The AGA holds an invitational tournament each year at the US Go Congress. The last couple years it has been a 32 player event, with Canada selecting 4 players. Yongfei Ge is seeded in 2010, so we select 4 other players. The event had been sponsored by the ING foundation, but that is no longer the case. Given that the name has reverted from ING/Masters tournament to North American Masters tournament. Canada now uses a point system for selection, 2010 will be the first year points are allocated.

The 2010 congress will be in Colorado Springs, July 31st-August 8th. Players should register for qualifying if they plan to attend the Congress this year, or they wish to accumulate points for future years. Please email president@gocanada.org with your information to register, along with your rank and attendance plans. The tournament is 5D+, so players participating in qualifying should be close to 5D rank.

In the past there has been a large prize fund. With the absence of ING funds this year it is not clear what the prize money (if any) will be. It appears likely the NAMT will be used to select the North American Fujitsu representative, and it is possible that will be the only prize offered. This tournament does include professional players. Only North American permanent residency is required for this event, not citizenship although to win the Fujistsu spot citizenship would be required.
